The remnants of the Minoan City in Akrotiri
Nearby the homonymous settlement, in the south of the island. Excavations have brought to light evidence of a thriving Minoan colony on Santorini which was first damaged by an earthquake and then buried into ashes after a devastating volcanic eruption in the 17th century BC.

The museum of Prehistoric Thira in Fira
One of the most important museums in Greece with exhibitions of Cycladic art, fossils and findings from Akrotiri excavations (17th century B.C), such as the wall painting of blue monkey, the wall painting of ladies, the gold ibex figurine and more.

The Archaeological Museum in Fira
It includes interesting displays from the archaic, roman, geometric, hellenistic periods, such as sculptures, inscriptions, pottery and clay figurines.

Located in the south-east of the island, is a real jewel, where you can see a complex of ancient constructions from the Hellenistic and Roman Period, such as the Temples of Artemidoros and Dionysus, the Agora, Sanctuaries, the Graveyard and the Stoa, as well as the ruins of several monuments built in the 3rd and 4th centuries BC by the Ptolemies, such as the Theater.

The Minerals and Fossils Museum in Perissa
A relatively new museum where you can admire displays of rare tree fossils, such as palm tree from the pre-eruption period in Santorini, as well as a mineral collection from Lavrio.

The Kameni Volcanic Islets with their hot springs
The most popular attractions in Santorini are the Nea Kameni and Palea Kameni islets in the centre of the caldera, approached by excursion boats so that tourists can climb up the volcanic craters and then bathe in the hot springs.

Thirassia Island
A generally unspoilt islet with few inhabitants being also a stop for excursion boats. Thirassia used to be part of Santorini but was sliced off by an volcanic eruption in the third century BC.

The village of Pyrgos
Traditional village of Santorini inland which was the capital city of the island up to 1800 B.C. The medieval element is prominent here as there are narrow streets with arches. You can feel the Venetian influence here since Pyrgos used to be one of 5 castle cities established by the Venetians.

One of the most important Byzantine monuments, built by the emperor Alexios A’ Komninos in the late 11th century, which has been well-preserved despite the many damages it has suffered through the years.
